This is for Intel HD3000 integrated Graphics chip:
To un-check the grayed the SolidWorks 2011 OpenGl just follow the below mentioned steps.
1. Open this registry branch
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SolidWorks\SolidWorks 2010\Performance\Graphics\Hardware\Intel (In the left Panel)Then select the right side Workarounds and change the value from 10 to 9.
Now open the Solidworks just check Options --> Performance --> Use software OpenGL in SolidWorks It should be unchecked.
If you are using other than Intel try your respective ATI or Radeon workaround values.
Please comment.
Does it work for SW 2012 also. I have the same problem with I5-2500K CPU which has Intel HD3000.
ReplyDeleteEven after putting nVidia 9400 Gt 1GB the problem is the same. I changed the motherboard and CPU, earlier it was working fine
Try to Change the value in Nvidia folder instead of Intel. It may work.
ReplyDeleteWorked using SW 2011 without a problem. Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteYou are Welcome...
DeleteThank you so much! To get this working on a Portege R700 (i5-h20M), Solidworks 2012, I changed the value in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SolidWorks\SolidWorks 2012\Performance\Graphics\Hardware\Intel\Intel(R) HD Graphics from 0x10000010 to 0x00000009.
ReplyDeleteI was considering buying a PCI express graphics card! I'd been searching everywhere, installing several graphics drivers, etc. This little trick worked a charm.
By the way - this is totally undocumented everywhere! How did you figure this out?! This is the only mention of this anywhere on the internet! Nothing on the Solidworks forum, nowhere!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the complement Jeff,
DeleteActually I had the same issue and tried to overcome by installing various drivers, utilities. At last in a forum I got a hint about the OpenGL, with that I found this. So I don't want others to wast their time. That's why I shared this trick, actually I am a design engineer.
I'm facing the same troubles (use oppenGL software, marked and grey) in SW 2013.
DeleteCan't find the branch you're referring to.
Can you help?
İt worked but i am working on part, go and look same where that it was grey. Can t change...
ReplyDeleteHi Mahmut,
ReplyDeleteWhile working on Assy, Part, Drw you can not touch the option it will remain grey only, you must close all the working files. There is no other option.
Thanks.
Hey,
ReplyDeletehow can I find out the workaround value that you mentioned for my graphic card (ATI Radeon)?
Thanks for the great post!
Thank you! It works.
ReplyDeleteI could edit the file in notepad. There are a few possible similar lines to correct (set the 10 value to 9) in the file. I did it tryng one by one and made it at the second try.
Thanks for the information.
Regards.
Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteWorks fine on SW 2012-2013 on Lenovo X230 with intel HD4000
I can vouch for this- works well!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Came here to solve my magnifying glass issue and found a superb increase in performance.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much...
I was having a hard time working with multi-parts assembly.. I have a fairly good pc, even though it would take me about 40~80 seconds just to select sub-assemblies with many parts.
Works great on the Microsoft Surface Pro. Thanks a bunch!
ReplyDeleteI've AMD RADEON HD 7670M, what value i've to write and in where?
ReplyDeletePlease help me,openGl is annoing!!
Thanks!!
Thank you very much! successfully working on 2 Intel Graphics.
ReplyDeleteThanks! SolidWorks 2012 was very slow graphically until you showed me this tip! Now my i5 laptop with Intel HD Graphics runs SolidWorks very nicely!
ReplyDeleteThere both marketing names, just look at the cores and the clockspeed since the architecture of both chips are almost identical.. . edit: buy intel for crunching numbers like cad.
ReplyDeleteSolidworks
Whenever i change it to 9 and restart solidworks. Solidworks changes the value back to 10...
ReplyDeleteThanks Ashok - The simplest of things, i tried unticking OpenGL with no Parts or Assemblies open and it worked!!!
ReplyDeleteAfter ages re-installing and messing with the registry, it was something that simple.

ReplyDeleteI have a question I have an Intel HD 4000 in my computer. Solidworks 2012 on my computer has the use software openGL checked and greyed out. I cannot figure out a workaround on my computer, if anyone has any tips that could help I would really appreciate it. It has been very aggravating. Thanks in advance for the help.
ReplyDeleteHi Justin,
DeleteTry by re installing the graphics driver and Solidworks. Now I switched my existing lap motherboard to new one with 2gb Nvidia graphics card. So I can't try the workaround trick again.
Ashok
I changed the values for everything in the Intel folder that had a 10 to 9 and viola, the option is greyed out but with the box unchecked, performance feels much smoother. Thanks for the advice!
ReplyDeleteI should add changing every value in the Intel folder to 9 will keep the changes permanent
DeleteThanks Ashok. This worked on my W8.1 machine running SW 2013. Problem occurred after update from 8.0 to 8.1.
ReplyDeleteThank you! This worked for me: Windows 7, Retina Macbook Pro with Intel Iris Graphics
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, everybody said that my proobok with hd300 is not enought for solid works. But I have old laptop with dual core and solid works work really nice compere to the hp i3.

ReplyDeleteThis is simply awesome... Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteI have an HP Laptop with ATI Graphics card. I7 CPU with Intel HD 3000. It's got funky switchable graphics feature and didnt let me uncheck OpenGL. I changed Intel HD 3000 Family value from 10 to 9 and its working flawlessly.
Yes, it really does work! Thanks for info
ReplyDeleteYou, sir, are a genius. For the record, this fix also works on a MacBook Pro with Intel HD Graphics 4000, Parallels 9, SolidWorks 2013.
ReplyDeleteCheers mate this was really helpful very appreciated. Just a heads up for anyone else with a HD5000 you have to change the value in Intel HD Graphics from 10000010 to 00000009
ReplyDeleteMany Thanks, it works! Redraw speed of the orange highlight lines much faster then before!
ReplyDeleteMy computer config:
Intel i5-3450, zotac H77 itx motherboard, intel onboard HD2500 graphics, SW 2013 x64 SP5.0

ReplyDeleteBeen looking for a workaround for a while. This worked perfectly. Thank you very much!
ReplyDeleteDoes this work on a Macbook pro retina 15'' with Intel Iris Pro and Nvdia geForce GT 750m? if so...what is the exact workaround? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteYes. Macbook Pro Late 2013 (same graphics).
DeleteEnter Registry by Searching for REGEDIT: Change 10 to 9
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SolidWorks\SolidWorks 2012\Performance\Graphics\Hardware\Parallels and NVIDIA Corporation
Any suggestions for Intel HD P4600? I tried this workaround but it seemed to have no effect on the Solidworks OpenGL box. Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteIt worked for me. I have a Toshiba Tecra Z40 with I5. I changed the 10000010 to 1000009 in the following registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SolidWorks\SolidWorks 2012\Performance\Graphics\Hardware\Intel\Intel(R) HD Graphics
ReplyDeleteThis worked for me. Running SW 2012 on a Macbook Pro (Retina Late 2013) with Windows 7 Installed on Parallels. Solved performance issues in Solidworks AND solved lag issues with my Seiki 39" 4k monitor. Thank You!
ReplyDeleteEnter Registry by Searching for REGEDIT: Change 10 to 9
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SolidWorks\SolidWorks 2012\Performance\Graphics\Hardware\Parallels and NVIDIA Corporation
Our company upgraded all computers. I reinstalled SolidWorks 2010 and CamWorks 2011, Had many issues and resolved most of them. Still have some issues When I select any tab in Mill Part Setup or Rough Mill, Contour Mill etc. I cannot move my image. The image partially redraws many times over each other and never a complete redraw. Also I get the message about Properties GL and Magnify Glass will not work etc. Not exact wording. Any ideas on how to resolve. I did download the lates drivers from SolidWorks
ReplyDeleteRunning SW 2014 on Win 7 laptop. I tried the regedit changing 10 to 9, but still comes up with use software OpenGL grayed out :(
ReplyDeleteThat is grayed out and the box still checked.
DeleteKUDOS! worked with nvida quadro fx1800 on HPZ200 workstation. I changed it on the HP side. You are great.
ReplyDeleteI'm running Solidworks 2016 on Intel HD3000 integrated graphics (Windows 10) and this does not help. Has anybody idea? I'm searching for solution for a long time now and all I can find are solutions like this.
ReplyDeleteFuncionou muito bem, valeu pela dica!

ReplyDeleteHi Ashok,
ReplyDeleteDid this option allow you to use RealView in SW? I have a macbook pro, 2012 with an intel HD Graphics 4000, running solidworks 2016 on parallels. I got the "use software open GL" box to be unchecked, but RealView still doesn't work. Any suggestions? I followed the instructions on http://www.caddirt.com/blog/2012/9/13/realview-on-a-macsecrets-revealed, which gets RealView to show up, but when I click it it doesn't do anything - just adds a little shadow around the edges. I'm pretty sure I just need the correct "workaround" hex value under "Parallels using Intel HD Graphics 4000", but none of the ones I've tried work
It works in SOlidworks 2013!
ReplyDeleteThanks
it work with Solidworks 2009!! Thanks a ton!!!
ReplyDeleteСпасибо! Этот метод работает с SolidWorks 2012 и Intel X3100!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's work on SolidWorks 2012 and GPU Intel X3100 (GM965)!
Please Update the graphics driver in device manager then edit the registry files then there will be no crashing solidworks
ReplyDeleteI'm using AMD Radeon (TM) R5 M330, for this the current value in the workaround is 0x04000085 ,what value should I change.
ReplyDeleteThanks in advance

ReplyDeleteGreat, worked for my SW 2016 with Intel UHD Graphics 620.
ReplyDeleteThanx very much for that information.
Thank you! It still works for SW17!
ReplyDeleteIt works!!!!! Thank you
ReplyDeleteIts 2025, I'm using Intel core-i5 with Intel iris Xe graphics on SolidWorks 2016.
And it fixed the issue. I can now disable the OpenGL thing and it performs way better.
Great to see this trick still works, thanks for the confirmation...
